The recent explosions in front of the Oslo government buildings represents the vulnerability of our critical infrastructure to the quick planting and detonating of explosives and also the importance of accurate data tracking.
Immediately after the incident, a handful of rumored reports of what had happened were circling. First there were reports of gunmen, no gunmen, three gunmen, a building takeover, or a combination of these items. This is an example of why it’s critical to have video to capture footage of the field of view that best provides accurate, timely and factual information, especially for high-profile government buildings.
Critical business managers should have cameras focusing on the most important areas of their building(s).
Designers/consultants should plan for critical points of video for the buildings.
Installers should aim the cameras to give the field of view that is necessary to answer the question of what happened, how many people were involved and which way did they go, in daytime or during the dark of night.
