A Florida woman is accused of trying to poison her husband to death by spiking his coffee with Xanax.
Investigators say Melissa Goetz’s husband discovered her plan when she accidentally recorded herself telling someone about it on a voice mail message to him last Wednesday.
Investigators said Goetz, 46, confessed to the crime, saying her husband physically abused her and she was simply trying to calm him down.
The husband, who operates heavy machinery, told investigators he hadn’t been feeling well for about a week, but he didn’t know what was wrong.
He said he noticed a white powdery substance inside their coffee pot a few days ago but didn’t think anything of it at the time.
He said he became ill at work Wednesday after drinking a cup of coffee that his wife made him.
